Equip time in Nepal brought together Christians from all over Kathmandu, as well as from towns and villages beyond. Some had driven for fifteen hours by car on less than ideal roads in order to be there. Two other teams from South African churches (Cornerstone and Brinsestone) in Johannesburg also came to participate in the event.

prayer time on the roof |
The "Kwality Inn" (as per the sign in the building) where the event was held was buzzing with all ages of people, including small children. Numerous "namaste's" and "jamaste's" happened. People were making new friends, and having reunions with old ones. It was interesting to observe the different types of dress and jewellery people displayed expending on where they were from. Nepalese, Hindi, and English were all being spoken.
Despite the conglomerate of different customs, traditions, and languages, the people had gathered for the same reasons; to celebrate Jesus, to learn, and to encourage one another. Excessive dancing is becoming a theme amongst the churches we have been visiting, although this time, the worship band was very Guns and Roses "esque". Amazing.
Amongst many other valuable things, we discussed God's love for our cities, and what that means for what we are all called to do. Our speakers had many encouraging words specifically for the people of Nepal.
Jesus pierces through what seem to be humanly impenetrable differences, and draws people together. No matter where each person came from at that meeting, it was clear that we were all seeking after and rejoicing in the same God. We are bound together by a common cord, even if in every other regard. We are "worlds apart."
